How longer rentals are priced

There are three rates: daily, weekly and monthly. You never have to work out which combination is cheapest, because the pricing engine does it for you — nine days is priced as a week plus two days, not as nine days.

That sounds like a small thing and is not. It is the difference between a fair price and the price you happened to click on, and it is why the total sometimes drops when you extend by a day.

Who this actually suits

People relocating to Tampa who need a car before they buy one. Contractors on a long placement. Anyone whose own car is in the shop for a fortnight and who has discovered what a daily rate does to a monthly budget.

It also suits visitors staying a month or more, where a monthly rate beats both a daily rental and the cost of a short lease once you count the deposit and the paperwork.

Mileage over a long rental

The allowance scales with the length of the rental and never goes backwards — a longer booking is never given a smaller total allowance than a shorter one. Over a month that is a substantial figure, and going beyond it costs $0.35 a mile rather than voiding anything.

How long can I rent for?

Monthly pricing covers a month at a time and can be extended. For anything beyond a few months, talk to us — at that point a lease may genuinely serve you better, and we would rather say so.

Is a long rental cheaper than leasing?

Under about a year it usually is, once you count a lease's deposit, credit check and early-termination terms. Over a year, leasing generally wins. It depends on your situation more than on the headline rate.

Can I swap the car during a long rental?
